Now I saw some gorgeous quilts and a smocked dress and pinafore here early this morning, Who removed their post?? Please put it back up. You do beautiful work!

My post on Dior is up on the Blog. Fascinating man! I do enjoy writing far more than I thought that I would. I struggled to write essays in school maybe it was all of the rules that I had to follow that squelched my creativity. Anyway, writing these posts for Pride Month has been really informative and entertaining for me at least. Most of these designers were forced to keep their sexuality a secret for their entire lives. It makes me sad to think that these people couldn't live their lives the way they needed to.

Next up is Yves Saint Laurent.

😊Very interesting reading, Mary Beth.

Does anyone have tips on finding specific vintage patterns? I've been using search on Etsy, eBay, and Vintagesewingpatterndirectory.com but can never find what I'm looking for. I'm searching the pattern brand and number - for example, Vogue 4971 or the brand, year, and number - like Vogue 4971 from 1959. If there a better way to search?

Specifically I'm looking for patterns featured in the Vogue Pattern Book from 1959. I have the UK version of these magazines, so maybe the patterns were released under different numbers in the US?

It seems to be getting harder to find patterns through search just using the pattern company and number. If it doesn't show up with just that, try the decade of issue, item (dress/skirt or whatever). Pinterest is another place to check using the same tags. The Vintage Wiki Page often tells you if there is an alternate pattern number and you can put. your info in to be contacted if someone notices your request. Like Mary Beth suggested, asking for help here is a good idea since we all have unlisted patterns.

I’m Tyna—a true novice. I first sewed in middle school home ec…but that ended quickly. Every decade or so, I get frustrated because I know exactly what clothing I want, but I can’t find it on the racks. That drives me to try again. My sister, Mary Beth (a truly talented seamstress, despite her humble comments), usually gets lots of calls for help during my once-a-decade trials, and is patient and helpful to me (we live 700 miles apart—wish we were closer)! My most recent effort took a lot of tearing out and restarting, but I did finish (I refuse not to) a nice-looking jumpsuit using a pattern from The Gingham Life. Love it….but I overestimated my size 😒. I have it hanging in my closet, hoping I’ll find someone to gift it to!

Sewing is good for the brain, right?
